CUSTOMS DUTIES

Customs and excise duty rules when exporting

Shipping goods to another country consists of settling the shipping costs in the UK, and any other charges applicable at your chosen destination. These fees are taxes on goods that cross borders and are collected by the government to protect local industries. As these goods exit one country and enter another via the various ports, these fees must be settled before the cargo can be retrieved. As shipping agents, we strongly advise that before shipping with us, you check the customs duties, laws, and requirements in your country of destination as this will indicate the overall cost.

When shipping overseas you will be required to pay charges to have your goods cleared through customs, you will also have to pay for DTHC (Destination Terminal Handling Charge), unloading (devanning), wharfage, duties, and taxes (if you are a returning resident, then duties and taxes may not be applicable).

Below are helpful links to Customs Duties and Excise information for a few countries. Please note that when shipping your vehicle anywhere overseas from the UK, import duties, taxes or customs and duties restrictions are your responsibility and are not included in any shipping costs we provide.

There are reputable agents in many countries (they will charge you a nominal fee for their services).

That can offer further advice and handle customs clearance and all documentation on your behalf.
